Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has stepped into the ongoing dispute between the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abulrosheed Akanbi, and traditional worshippers in the Iwo region of the state. The conflict centers around the potential removal and prohibition of Isese activities within the kingdom.Governor Adeleke’s involvement comes as a response to the escalating religious tensions within the state. Through his Chief Press Secretary, Olawale Rasheed, the governor issued a stern warning regarding the situation on Sunday.To address the complex matter, the governor dispatched his Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Samuel Ojo, to Iwo with the purpose of facilitating a prompt dialogue between both opposing factions, particularly in relation to the upcoming Isese festival.During his visit to the Iwo palace, the Special Adviser convened discussions with key stakeholders, including a telephonic exchange with Oluwo, who happened to be out of town at the time.Mr. Ojo’s engagements also extended to interactions with various traditionalists who had pledged to gather in Iwoland in a bid to challenge the decisions of the Oluwo, who reportedly imposed a ban on traditionalist activities within his domain.Addressing the situation, Mr. Ojo shared, “I was sent here by the directive of the Governor. I held conversations with Kabiyesi, Oluwo, and he assured me of his commitment to ensuring peace and security, despite his absence from the area. I also engaged with several other local traditional leaders, located in close proximity to the palace.”He emphasized the importance of harmonious coexistence and underscored that any group that disturbs the state’s peace will face the intervention of security personnel. “All necessary security measures have been put in place,” Mr. Ojo confirmed. “The traditionalists have the right to exercise their fundamental human rights, but it is imperative that they remain within the confines of the law.”Moreover, the Governor has taken an additional step by declaring Monday, the 21st of August, a public holiday in observance of the 2023 Isese Day Festival, as highlighted by the Security Adviser.
