Oba of Idofin, Shedrack Durojaiye Obibeni, and his wife were reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi. The incident occurred on Monday at around 5 pm along the Makutu-Idofin road in Kogi State, as per a report from the News Agency of Nigeria.Mr. Abdulrasak Asiru, Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Council, expressed his shock and sadness while confirming the incident. He stated that such an occurrence had not taken place in the area for nearly two years, highlighting the robust security measures in place to protect the community.Asiru revealed that the kidnapping seemed to have been meticulously planned by the perpetrators. The Oba and his wife had ventured out for a brief moment, only to be abducted within a span of 10 minutes. This alarming detail has raised suspicions, leading authorities to launch an immediate investigation.”We suspect foul play in this distressing incident, and we are committed to identifying and apprehending the criminals responsible for this reprehensible act. Our primary objective is to secure the safe release of our revered traditional ruler and his wife,” Asiru stated resolutely.Efforts to locate the abducted couple have been intensified. Alerts and messages have been dispatched to all traditional rulers and community leaders in Okun land, urging them to remain vigilant and assist in the thorough search operation. Local hunters and vigilant groups have already ventured into the surrounding bushes, actively combing the area in their pursuit of the criminals.The Kogi Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, expressed his unawareness of the incident, stating that he had yet to receive a briefing from the DPO (Divisional Police Officer) responsible for the affected area. The police are expected to join the efforts in investigating the case and coordinating with local authorities to secure the safe release of the kidnapped royal couple.
