Ogun State Police Command Parades 40 Suspected Cultists and Other Criminals

The Ogun State Police Command made a significant stride in its fight against crime as it paraded no fewer than 40 suspects on Wednesday. The suspects, apprehended for offenses ranging from cultism to murder and armed robbery, were presented before journalists at the police command headquarters in the state capital, Abeokuta, by the Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji. The arrests were made both within and outside the state, reflecting the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across borders.Among the notable apprehensions were Michael Bob, Abdul Omotoyosi, and Adeshina Idris, who were taken into custody for charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, and stealing. The diligent operation carried out by the police resulted in their arrest in Mushin, Lagos State, where a stolen Toyota car was also recovered.Another significant capture was Austin Omoh, who was allegedly involved in an armed robbery incident within the state but was eventually arrested in Maroko, Lagos State. The police seized a stolen Toyota Sequoia SUV with the license plate AAA 631 HX from the suspect, further reinforcing the successful crackdown on criminal activities.The police commissioner also shed light on the arrest of Wasiu Odubote, who was found guilty of shop breaking and stealing in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode. Odubote and his gang members were responsible for breaking into a spare parts shop on Old Ondo Road. While some members of the gang managed to evade capture, the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer and his team ensured the arrest of Odubote. Additionally, a tricycle bearing the license plate GBE 144VX was recovered during the operation.In a separate incident, Adedapo Taiwo, Arogundade Idowu, Noah Jogunom, and James Abiodun were apprehended in Kobape, Abeokuta. The suspects were allegedly planning to disrupt the inauguration of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun’s second term. The police discovered a Barreta pistol, live ammunition, and charms in their possession, further underscoring the seriousness of their intentions.Addressing the growing concern of cultism in the state, Commissioner Oladimeji expressed the unwavering determination of the command to apprehend the culprits. In Atan-Ijebu, four suspects identified as Onasanya Opeoluwa, Friday Daniel, Otuneye Samuel, and Ayanbade Owolabi were arrested for their involvement in cult activities. The police successfully seized a locally-made double-barrel gun, a locally-made short gun, an axe, a dagger, a jackknife, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.Furthermore, the police detained Akindele Femi, Abodurin Afeez, and Ishola Ayorinde due to their association with different cult groups and engagement in criminal activities. Their arrests represent another step towards dismantling the influence of such groups within the state.The police operation also led to the arrest of Sulaiman Ajagunjeun and Opeyemi Adesegun in Itoko. The suspects confessed to their involvement in cult-related fights and admitted to being members of the Aiye confraternity.Commissioner Oladimeji, speaking about the rise in cultism cases, assured the public that the police command would continue to pursue and bring to justice all those involved in such activities. The parade of the suspects serves as a testament to the command’s dedication to maintaining peace and order in Ogun State.
