NDLEA seizes Illicit drugs weighing 8,852kg in Lagos
In Lagos, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of 202 bags of Canadian Loud, which weighed a total of 8,852 kilograms. According to a statement released in Abuja by Mr Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA, the seizure occurred after a 30-minute gunfight with gunmen who were escorting the imported synthetic strain of cannabis along Eleko beach road in the Lekki area of Lagos. Babafemi explained that the traffickers were accompanied by armed men and that NDLEA operatives laid an ambush for them after receiving credible intelligence. When the two long trucks carrying the consignments were flagged down, they sped off, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that lasted about 30 minutes. After being overpowered by NDLEA operatives, the truck drivers and their armed escorts abandoned the trucks and the drug consignment in the bush and escaped. One of the trucks painted red had 149 jumbo bags weighing 6,548kg, while the second truck painted blue had 53 big bags with a weight of 2,304kg. NDLEA operatives are now pursuing the drug lord who shipped the illicit consignment into the country.
