ROYAL REBELLION: 1,600 UK Antimonarchists Set to Protest King Charles’ Coronation on May 6
According to a report from Sky News on Wednesday, UK-based anti-monarchist group Republic has stated that around 1,600 activists will protest against the monarchy during the coronation of Charles III in London. Republic’s CEO Graham Smith claimed that the demonstration will challenge the “hereditary privilege and power” of the monarchy. Protesters plan to march along the coronation route with banners and chants calling for the abolition of the monarchy. Smith also criticized the expected cost of the coronation, which is reportedly set to be around £250 million ($314 million). In previous months, Republic’s activists have held a series of protests against the upcoming coronation. King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will be officially crowned on May 6, following the death of his predecessor Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
