Labour Party expresses concerns over relocation of Election Petitions Tribunal to Abuja
The Ebonyi chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has raised concerns about the Election Petitions Tribunal (EPT) being relocated to Abuja. This decision was made by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, on Wednesday, and has been deemed worrisome by the State Chairman of the Party, Mr Godwin Jioke. He stated that they are uncomfortable with the cessation of operation in the state and want matters to be handled in the state where elections took place. Meanwhile, Legal Practitioner Mr Sylvester Amah suggested that there could be various reasons for the relocation, including insecurity, logistics, and funding. He believes that a neutral environment would be more suitable for the tribunal, where political parties would not claim ownership of the process, and it would allow for equity, fair hearing, and justice.
