Man Arrested in Lagos State for Sexually Abusing His Own Daughter for 3 years
In a distressing incident that has shaken the community, a 42-year-old man, identified as Babatunde Afolayan, was apprehended by the vigilant officers of the Lagos State Police Command on Monday. He stands accused of a deeply disturbing crime, allegedly sexually abusing his own daughter for an agonizing period of three years.
Hailing from the Ikorodu region of Lagos, the accused has allegedly subjected his daughter to this harrowing ordeal since she was just 10 years old, according to information collected by our correspondent.
The horrifying chain of events began to unravel when the young girl’s teachers observed an alarming change in her behavior at school. Concerned for her well-being, the educators promptly notified the school principal, who, in turn, made the decision to seek guidance from the school’s Imam to help the troubled girl.
It was during one of these counseling sessions with the Imam that the 13-year-old girl courageously revealed a deeply unsettling truth – that her own father had been sexually assaulting her for three agonizing years.
A source within the school, who understandably requested anonymity due to a lack of authorization to discuss the matter, disclosed, “It happened that the girl just started misbehaving in school that no teacher knew what to do. So, the matter was reported to the school principal who then decided that she should go for counseling with the school’s Imam.”
“It was during the counseling that the girl confessed to the Imam that her father has been having sexual intercourse with her since she was 10 years old! She also said the last time the father slept with her was on October 2, 2023. As if that was not enough, she said her father kept encouraging her to have a boyfriend.”
The school principal, deeply concerned by the shocking revelation, promptly reported the matter
to a medical facility for a thorough examination and the necessary treatment, in order to address the physical and emotional trauma she had endured.
The gravity of this horrifying situation was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who, when contacted for a statement, expressed his concern over the matter. He affirmed that the suspect was in police custody and that the victim had been provided with the medical attention she so urgently needed. He also assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway to unearth all the details surrounding this deeply distressing case.
