Anambra Police Crackdown: 129 Suspected Cultists and Criminals Paraded in Impressive Operation
In a significant operation conducted by the Anambra State Police Command on Monday, a total of 129 suspects were apprehended and subsequently paraded before members of the press. These individuals were allegedly involved in a range of criminal activities, including cultism, murder, and armed robbery.
Addressing the gathered journalists, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, disclosed that among the suspects paraded were 34 individuals believed to be responsible for a series of violent attacks in the Awka region, all suspected cultists. Additionally, the operation resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals connected to insurgency, 39 suspected of armed robbery, 38 implicated in cult-related activities, and 22 individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping.
Notably, the Anambra State Police Command also presented five suspects accused of vandalizing the recently constructed 2nd Niger Bridge, an act that has drawn widespread concern. Among these suspects was an individual apprehended while in the process of vandalizing the office of the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka.
Commissioner Adeoye further highlighted that the police force in Anambra achieved a remarkable feat during the operation by rescuing 24 kidnap victims, including 18 passengers from a bus hijacked in the Amorka area of Ihiala while en route from Port Harcourt to Lagos.
The comprehensive operation yielded an impressive haul of seized items, including 93 rounds of ammunition, 25 motor vehicles, 26 firearms, 14 tricycles, seven motorcycles, and a roll of armoured cables and iron grills stolen from the 2nd Niger Bridge. The police also showcased various vehicles, charms, and illicit drugs that were confiscated from the apprehended suspects as part of their investigative efforts. This operation underscores the relentless commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to maintaining law and order in the state, as well as its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
