Kwara Man Cuts Off Neighbor’s Hand for Sleeping With His Wife

A farmer residing in Ba’abete Fulani Camp in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, found himself in the confines of a Kwara State Magistrates Court in Ilorin on Thursday, facing allegations of attempted culpable homicide.

Umaru stands accused of a shocking act – severing the wrist of his close neighbor, Abubakar Sanda, within the Fulani Camp community. The incident reportedly stems from suspicions of an alleged affair between Sanda and Umaru’s wife.

The charge brought against Umaru is a single count of attempted culpable homicide, a violation of Section 299 of the penal code laws of Nigeria.

The initiation of legal proceedings followed a report made by the victim’s brother, Sanda Mohammed, to the local police. According to the Police First Information Report, the incident unfolded on September 8, 2023, at approximately 2030 hours.

As per the report, Abubakar Sanda was returning home from Kaiama kara market at around 1200 hours when he was confronted and attacked by Oro Umaru. The attack resulted in the complete severing of Sanda’s right wrist.

Swift police action led to the apprehension of Oro Umaru, who, during a subsequent investigation at the Criminal Investigation Department, confessed to his actions. Umaru revealed that he and Abubakar Sanda had been living in close proximity for some time and that he had harbored suspicions of an extramarital relationship between Sanda and his wife, Fatima Oro. Umaru claimed to have caught them together on multiple occasions, with no satisfactory resolution to his grievances.

Umaru’s confession detailed the events leading up to the violent encounter. On September 6, 2023, at approximately 2200 hours, he allegedly observed Abubakar Sanda in conversation with his wife, Fatima. Upon noticing Umaru approaching, Sanda reportedly fled the scene.

Two days later, on September 8, 2023, Umaru purportedly entered Sanda’s residence and carried out the brutal attack, leaving Sanda with a severed wrist and injuries to his forehead.

During the court proceedings, the accused person did not enter a plea, as the case is still under investigation. The police prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, requested that the court remand Oro Umaru in the Federal Correctional facility until the investigation is completed.

The case will continue to be closely monitored as it unfolds, shedding light on the intricacies of this unfortunate neighbor dispute and the legal actions that will follow in its wake.
