According to Odutola, both victims, who hailed from Lagos and were visiting the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Onikoko, via the Itori area of the state, were pronounced dead at the Ifo General Hospital. Their attempts to navigate the treacherous waters had ended in a tragedy that left a community in mourning.As the details emerged, it was revealed that Adebayo Adeosun, a fellow member of the church, had contacted the local police station around 6:30 pm to report the heart-wrenching incident. Adeosun conveyed that a group of approximately seven young men, who had journeyed from Lagos to attend the church’s inauguration on August 27, 2023, had ventured out from the church premises to partake in a swim. Tragically, the excursion took a devastating turn as the group encountered difficulties in the water, leading to the drowning of two among them.The two unfortunate victims, Femi Akinola (32) from Odo Eran, Itire, Lagos State, and Tunde Falade (35) from Kola Alagbado, Lagos, were rescued from the tumultuous tides. Their valiant attempts to battle the waves had been in vain, and their lives were ultimately claimed by the relentless waters. Following the rescue, they were immediately transported to the Health Centre in Itori, where the attending medical doctor, with a heavy heart, confirmed their deaths.Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olayemi Jacob, promptly dispatched a team to the scene of the incident.
