IPOB Warns Nigerian Government and DSS Against Performing Surgery on Nnamdi Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has voiced its apprehension regarding the health of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently in the custody of the Federal Government and the Department of State Services (DSS). The group has cautioned against any plans by the authorities to subject Kanu to a surgical procedure while in detention, claiming that such a move would exacerbate his already deteriorating health. In a statement issued by IPOB’s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, on Sunday, the group criticized the alleged deployment of doctors by the DSS as personal physicians to Kanu, dismissing it as baseless and absurd. The statement, made available to The PUNCH, emphasized IPOB’s rejection of any ill-conceived surgery on their leader, stressing that Kanu should be released to his trusted medical team for the prescribed ear surgery.IPOB has called on its global community, as well as supporters of freedom and the Biafran cause, to take note of the perceived perilous intentions of subjecting Kanu to an ear surgery conducted by the DSS medical team. The group has expressed concerns that the proposed surgery could be a ploy to eliminate Kanu, citing the authorities’ refusal to grant him access to his preferred physicians. It vehemently rejected any surgery sponsored by the DSS or the Nigerian Government, asserting that such a procedure should not take place while Kanu remains in unlawful solitary confinement. While acknowledging Kanu’s urgent need for ear surgery due to injuries sustained during his alleged abduction and torture in Kenya, IPOB insisted that the procedure must not be conducted within the confines of the DSS detention facility. The group raised valid concerns about the potential medical complications that could arise during or after the surgery, given the current conditions of Kanu’s confinement. Consequently, IPOB demanded the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu in accordance with court orders, or his release on medical grounds to enable him to attend to his health. The situation surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s custody and the proposed surgery has garnered attention from supporters of IPOB and Biafra’s independence movement, who anxiously await a resolution that prioritizes Kanu’s health and respects his fundamental rights.
