President Bola Tinubu has pledged to undertake a comprehensive review of the minimum wage in order to align it with the prevailing economic conditions of the country. During a meeting with members of the Progressive Governors Forum on Friday, President Tinubu emphasized the need for both federal and state governments to collectively address the issue of the minimum wage, while simultaneously fortifying the generation and utilization of national revenue.Addressing the forum led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Tinubu highlighted the importance of careful analysis and introspection regarding the minimum wage. He stated, “We must engage in a process of careful evaluation and reflection on the matter of the minimum wage. Together, we must examine its implications alongside our revenue sources. It is crucial that we strengthen both the origin and application of our national income.”Furthermore, President Tinubu urged the governors, who represent the All Progressives Congress, to assume an active role in enlightening the public and ensuring effective governance. He acknowledged the challenges inherited from his predecessor and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue with the forum members, saying, “I have inherited the assets and liabilities of my predecessor. This is your first time in the Council Chambers, and it is my first time as well, for such a meeting. As progressive thinkers within the All Progressives Congress, you have a pivotal role to play in educating our citizens and promoting effective governance.”President Tinubu also reassured the governors that the prevailing multiple exchange rates in the country would be streamlined. He stated, “If we work together, the Nigeria of our dreams is within reach. I assure you that we will eliminate the existence of multiple exchange rates. You requested this meeting, and I made sure to allocate time to be here. We have a political party to manage, and regardless of the challenges we face, we must rise above complaints and focus on progress.”Speaking on behalf of the Progressive Governors Forum, Governor Uzodimma pledged unwavering support for President Tinubu and commended the decisions already made, which reflect positive intentions for the economy.
