Police Raid Auxiliary’s Hideout in Oyo State, Apprehend 78 Suspects with Arms
In a significant operation on Tuesday, the Oyo State Police Command successfully apprehended 78 individuals suspected to be associated with the disbanded Park Management System (PMS) on charges of planning to cause civil unrest in the state capital, Ibadan.The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, had previously announced the dissolution of the PMS, led by Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary.During the operation, the authorities seized a substantial amount of evidence, including guns, 724 live cartridges, 25 cutlasses, seven jack knives, 33 mobile phones, one laptop, various charms, two vehicles, and over N3 million in cash.Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, paraded the arrested suspects at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan. Speaking at the press conference, he disclosed, “On Tuesday, in a meticulously coordinated raid based on strategic intelligence, 78 suspected hoodlums who had meticulously planned to unleash mayhem in several parts of the metropolis were apprehended in possession of sophisticated firearms around Auxiliary’s location at Diamond Hotel, Alakia-Isebo, under Egbeda Local Government.”Williams further revealed that the operation resulted in the recovery of advanced firearms from the hotel rooms and the trunk compartments of parked vehicles within the premises. He noted that while Auxiliary managed to escape with some of his associates during a confrontation with the police, one member of the group was fatally shot.Furthermore, the same group is believed to be responsible for an assault on 14 members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in the Agodi area of Ibadan North-East Local Government on Monday.Emphasizing adherence to standard operational procedures, Williams explained, “All recovered items were duly documented, packaged, and recorded for forensic analysis and evidentiary purposes in accordance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and other relevant laws.”Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the state government took the decision to temporarily close down bus terminals in Ibadan.
