National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives in Ogun State have made a significant drug seizure, confiscating a total of 222.42 kilograms of cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, from various drug joints in the state. Additionally, 40 bottles of codeine, totaling 0.4 liters, were seized during the operation in the capital city of Abeokuta.Commander of Narcotics, Ibiba Odili, revealed this development in an official statement released on Tuesday. The drug joints targeted by the operatives included Mayas in Lafenwa, Odo-Eran in Obantoko, and Randa, all located in Abeokuta. At these locations, the drugs were uncovered, and a locally-made firearm was also recovered from one of the joints.”The gallant joint operatives seized an astounding 222.42 kilograms of cannabis sativa, commonly referred to as marijuana, in a single operation,” the statement read. Alongside the cannabis seizure, the combined forces discovered 40 bottles of codeine, weighing a total of 0.4 liters, underscoring the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs.Furthermore, a locally-made gun was confiscated during the operation, adding to the list of illicit items intercepted. This operation was carried out as part of the NDLEA’s collaboration with the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, with the aim of curbing drug supply and abuse in Abeokuta.Commander Odili emphasized the agency’s determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks and disrupt the chains of illicit substance supply, ultimately striving to create a safe and drug-free environment for the community. This operation marks the fourth phase of the NDLEA’s ongoing mopping-up and counter-narcotic intelligence operations against the illegal drug trade in the area.
