Another Tragic Loss Strikes Nollywood as Chikezie Uwazie Passes Away in the United StatesIn a string of devastating news concerning the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, the untimely deaths of beloved actors Saint Obi and Murphy Afolabi have been followed by yet another heartbreaking loss. Chikezie Uwazie, an accomplished actor, breathed his last a few days ago in the United States after undergoing a second brain surgery.Chikezie Uwazie, known for his prominent roles in the early 2000s, had departed from Nigeria more than seven years ago to pursue opportunities in the United States. During his time in Nollywood, he graced the screens in numerous films, including the poignant “Musical Whispers,” a movie exploring Autism, which was produced by Ebele Okaro and directed by Bond Emeruwa. Additionally, his talent shone in productions like “Village Destroyer,” alongside Osita Iheme and Ugo Ugbor, as well as “Last Kiss,” where he shared the screen with Emeka Ike, Ini Edo, Ejike Asiegbu, and Mercy Johnson Okojie, among other notable actors.Obey Etok Chima, a colleague and friend of Chikezie Uwazie, conveyed the heartbreaking news of his passing through a heartfelt Facebook post on Sunday. In her words, she wrote, “I can’t fathom that I’m posting this. Chikezie Uwazie is gone. After undergoing a second brain surgery. What a tragedy. I’m utterly shocked to receive this news tonight. It came through our IMSU alumni platform. I remember you telling me about your plans to seek greener pastures in the States. You assured me of your return, but I never saw you again. It’s hard to believe that you’re gone, but we trust in God’s wisdom. Rest in peace, Chyko.”Chikezie Uwazie’s passing marks the third devastating loss within the Nollywood community in the span of three days, following the demise of St. Obi and Murphy Afolabi. The industry mourns the loss of these talented individuals whose contributions to Nigerian cinema will forever be remembered.
