Ebonyi Police Warn Feuding Communities to Surrender Weapons
On Sunday, the police in Ebonyi issued a warning to the Effium and Ezza-Effium communities to stop their violent conflict over the collection of motor park toll. This conflict has resulted in loss of life and destruction of property, and has turned the once-thriving Effium community into a ghost town with many displaced persons. The police commissioner, Mr. Faleye Olaleye, has assured that the police will continue to protect the affected area and that aggressors will face the full wrath of the law. The police spokesperson, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, expressed regret that police operatives were attacked during the conflict and that the police station was burned down in the ensuing gun duel. However, there were no casualties or loss of arms and ammunition. The situation has now returned to normal in the area.
