Delta Police Bust 94 Suspected Sex Workers.
Ninety-four women suspected to be commercial sex workers were apprehended by the Police Command in Delta, along with 59 male suspects, in a raid carried out at identified criminal hotspots in Evwreni Community on the East-West Road and some black spots in Ughelli. The operation was led by the Commander, Dragon Patrol, CSP Graham Imade, with operatives drawn from various departments, including SIB, Dragon Patrol, Safer highway, Raiders, CP D-Coy squad, and Rapid Response Squad (RRS). According to DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesman, the suspects were arrested during an intensive confidence-building patrol, stop and search, and show of force while acting on credible intelligence. The suspects were charged to court, and some were transferred to the Command’s headquarters for further investigation. Recovered items included three pump-action guns, one locally-made cut-to-size gun, one dagger, 10 live cartridges, and several impounded vehicles and drugs. The Command’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Operations, Johnson Adenola, directed the massive raids in response to the recurring incidences of kidnapping and armed robbers in Warri, Ughelli, and other affected areas in the state. Edafe added that the DCP, Operations, urged the team to sustain the tempo and ensure that sanity was completely restored in the areas, while members of the public were encouraged to give useful information that would aid the police in fighting against crime and criminalities.
